Summer Program

Students from other countries come to the IESO event each year after several years of study.  We expect you to come to the USA IESO summer camp with a base knowledge of Earth Science.  At the camp we will take field trips, conduct field investigations, have guest presenters and have you conduct research online.  Students will be placed on teams and given a group project similar to the challenges at the International Earth Science Olympiad.

A typical day will start with class room activities and instruction.  Guest presenters will be brought in to teach with advanced skills and knowledge.  This will be followed in the afternoon by field trips and field work in Earth science.

The evening will be used to group work of the type done at the International Earth Science Olympiad followed by a daily test of what you learned that day.

The daily test scores will be added up along with the students scores for the team work.    The highest scoring qualifying students will be selected for Team USA.

The camp will be a week long residential program held at the University of Vermont from

June 24th through July 1st.   Food will be provided by the UVM dining services.  Special dietary needs can be accommodated.

Students will be selected for the camp based on an assessment of their content knowledge in Earth Science.   See camp admission.

All students attending the camp will receive a certificate of attendance and can request a personalized letter of

recommendation to Universities and Colleges.

The cost will be $2,500 to be paid in advance.   Tuition is needs based on a sliding scale.  Scholarship information is available upon request.
